Press Releases

Pomona, California and Chicago, Illinois – November 19, 2012 – The Center for Oral Health (COH), a California-based non-profit organization dedicated to promoting public oral health, focusing on children and vulnerable populations, announced today that it is partnering with Oral Health America (OHA) to bring information and resources to the oral health community in California that provides services to children who are at risk for developing dental disease.

Through this alliance, the Center for Oral Health and Oral Health America will train dental professionals and community-based oral health programs on resources, key issues and community needs as they relate to oral health in California. The initiative will provide access to knowledge and information to support California community programs in better serving and understanding the oral health needs of the community.

“The Center for Oral Health is committed to improving public oral health for all, as it is essential to overall health,” said Conrado Barzaga, executive director of the Center for Oral Health. “Through this partnership we will provide key information and resources to important community programs that are improving and driving access to oral health for Californians.”

Research confirms that dental disease is a silent epidemic affecting primarily vulnerable Americans, especially children and the elderly.  A recent Institute of Medicine study found that one in three people nationwide report some difficulty accessing dental care, regardless of insurance status. Despite being one of the most preventable of all diseases, tooth decay continues to rank as the most widespread public health issue for California children.
