The following people mentioned below have been instrumental in planning and defining Oral Health 2020: A Vision for Integrated Care and we are so appreciative for all their hard work. Their guidance and dedication to advancing oral health is extraordinary and we thank them for their time and efforts.

  • Harold C. Slavkin, DDS

    Harold C. Slavkin, DDS

    Dr. Hal Slavkin is presently Professor and Dean Emeritus from the University of Southern California (USC). Previously, he served as Dean for the School of Dentistry at USC (2000 thru 2008), Director of the NIDCR at the NIH (1995-2000) where he provided leadership for the first-time ever Surgeon Generals Report “Oral Health in America,” and earlier as the Director for the Center for Craniofacial Molecular Biology (CCMB) at USC (1989-1995). He has written or edited 11 books, authored 430 scientific papers, and produced and wrote the PBS “A Lifetime of Change.” He is a member of the CDA, ADA, LADS and is a member of the IOM and a fellow in the AAAS. He lives in Marina del Rey with his wife Lois.

  • Howard Pollick, BDS, MPH

    Dr. Howard Pollick is a full-time clinical professor and the director of the dental public health residency program in the School of Dentistry at the University of California San Francisco. Dr. Pollick is a diplomate of the American Board of dental public health, an American Dental Association expert spokesperson on fluoridation, chair of the fluoridation advisory council to the California Dental Association Foundation and a consultant to the California Department of Public Health. He is the recipient of the 2010 Fluoridation Special Merit Award from the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors and the Distinguished Faculty Member Award for 2011 from the Northern California Section of the American College of Dentists. He has authored several peer-reviewed articles, is a reviewer for several scientific journals and has contributed 2 chapters on Community Water Fluoridation, and on Topical Fluoride for the textbook Primary Preventive Dentistry, 8th edition (2014). Dr. Pollick was elected to the Executive Council of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry for 2013-15. Having previously served as Chair of the Oral Health Section and Governing Councilor of the American Public Health Association (2012-2013), Dr. Pollick reaches out to help ensure that oral health is part of the larger public health community. His services are directed at the oral health of communities as well as individual patients, having maintained a clinical practice throughout his career.

  • Jared I. Fine DDS, MPH

    Jared I. Fine DDS, MPH

    Jared I. Fine DDS, MPH was the Dental Health Administrator for the Alameda County Health Care Services Agency, Public Health Department for nearly 39 years where he has been a leader in the development of innovative delivery systems and programs that promote the health of children and families emphasizing access to primary prevention and treatment. He established the first continuously operating school based/ linked dental sealant program in 1993 in two Oakland elementary schools. He has piloted a successful national demonstration program known as Healthy Kids Healthy Teeth, to increase access to dental care for Medi-Cal eligible children 0-5 years. Dr. Fine was Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the California wide First Five Oral Health Initiative and co designed the continuing education program on early childhood caries prevention for the dental and medical community. He established a collaborative effort of primary preventive services for children at WIC sites which is being used as a statewide service model. He led Alameda County to the development of a 5 year strategic Plan for Oral Health in 2012. Dr. Fine was an inaugural fellow in the USPHS Primary Care Policy Fellowship, has served as President of the Alameda County Dental Society, Chair of the Oral Health Section of the American Public Health Association, Chairman of Board of the Dental Health Foundation. He recently served on the California Dental Association Taskforce on Workforce and on Access to Care. He was the 2008 recipient of the Myron Allukian Jr. Award from the Association of Community Dental Programs and the 2013 recipient of the John W. Knutson Award in Dental Public Health from the American Public Health Association.

  • Jorge E. Rojas, DDS, OS

    Dr.Jorge Rojas is the Academic Manager Western Region for Colgate Oral Pharmaceuticals. Jorge joined Colgate from Den Mat where he was Senior Clinical and Technical Advisor for Lumineers and Snap On. His previous position was a VP of Latin American Regional Sales and Clinical Advisor for Premier Elite Group LLC for U.S and LATAM. In Madrid, Spain Jorge served as a Clinical Researcher for Oral-B. Jorge received his dental degree from Colegio Odontológico Colombiano in Bogota, Colombia and completed a fellowship in Oral Surgery at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Spain, in addition of Continuing Education at New York University. Jorge’s career as Dental professional has developed and presented courses for student dental professionals, general practitioners, residents and others dental professional’s combining his set of skills as researcher , clinician , advocate, community outreach information, to provide and share the best of his dental knowledge. His focus is to provide dental professionals with current scientific research and information to assist them with making active, evidence based recommendations in their clinical practice. Jorge is an active member of the International Association for Dental Research, ADEA, American Dental Association and Spanish Society of Implantology.
